Meet Kelly
Hi, Iโm Kelly St. Claire, The Silver Coach.
I'm a gray blending and transition specialist, educator, and advocate for stylists who want more than technical mastery. With over two decades behind the chair, I've learned that technique alone is a shaky place to build a career. It looks solid right up until a client wants something you haven't practiced yet, and then you realize you were never standing on very steady ground.
Why I Created The Silver Coach
I created The Silver Coach because I kept meeting stylists who were good at their jobs and still felt like they were losing ground.
They weren't undertrained. Most of them had years behind the chair and real skill. But they'd built their whole career on technique, and technique is a pedestal. It holds you up right until a client wants something you've never practiced, and then you're standing on nothing. So they stayed broad. Said yes to everything. Never let themselves specialize, because specializing felt like a risk they couldn't afford. And the book stalled anyway, quietly, while newer stylists who knew how to stand for something pulled ahead.
Meanwhile their clients were going through something real. Gray hair isn't just a color change, it's grief, it's the years catching up with a body, it's a woman deciding whether to keep hiding or finally be seen. Most stylists are doing that emotional work at the chair every day with no framework for it at all, just instinct and hoping they don't get it wrong.
I built The Silver Coach to give stylists both halves. The technical skill to blend gray beautifully, and the ability to actually see the woman sitting in the chair, so the two stop being separate things. Gray blending is the door in. Underneath it is a different way of working altogether, one built on trust instead of performance.
That's the shift I'm here for.
Not more technique stacked on top of the same shaky foundation, but solid ground to build a whole career on.
